The next official James Bond novel has been revealed as King Zero, with a release date scheduled for September 24, 2026. Written by Charlie Higson, the book marks his first full-length adult Bond novel after previously contributing several titles to the popular Young Bond series for Ian Fleming Publications. Pre-orders for the novel are already available.
According to the official synopsis, Bond’s latest mission begins with the mysterious death of an agent in the Saudi Arabian desert. What initially appears to be a routine investigation quickly develops into a dangerous global pursuit involving betrayal, hidden secrets, and a powerful new adversary unlike any Bond has faced before.
The story hints at a world undergoing dramatic change, placing 007 in unfamiliar territory as he uncovers a conspiracy with potentially devastating consequences. As Bond follows a trail of clues across multiple countries, he finds himself racing against time without realizing that a deadly countdown is already underway.
Lurking behind the events is an enigmatic figure whose influence and power could prove greater than any previous villain in the franchise.
Speaking during the novel’s launch event, Higson expressed his excitement about finally stepping into the world of adult Bond fiction after more than two decades of writing stories connected to the character.
The author described the project as a major milestone in his career, noting that the scale of the publisher’s launch campaign reflects the significance of the release. For Higson, becoming part of the long-running Bond legacy in such a major way is a particularly special achievement.
What About the Next James Bond Movie?
While Bond prepares to return to bookshelves, fans are also eager for updates on the next film installment.
The upcoming movie, currently referred to as Bond 26, is expected to launch a new era for the franchise following Daniel Craig’s final appearance in No Time to Die. Reports have linked acclaimed filmmaker Denis Villeneuve to the director’s chair, while Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is said to be working on the screenplay. However, the biggest question remains unanswered: who will become the next James Bond?
No official casting announcement has been made, leaving speculation wide open about who will inherit one of cinema’s most iconic roles.
